129 FXUS63 KUNR 161724 AFDUNR Area Forecast Discussion For Western SD and Northeastern WY National Weather Service Rapid City SD 1124 AM MDT Sun Oct 16 2022 .DISCUSSION...(Today Through Saturday) Issued at 246 AM MDT Sun Oct 16 2022 Current satellite imagery shows clearing skies over western SD and northeastern WY. Winds across the region are light and variable with temperatures ranging from the 30s to 40s. Fog and low clouds are developing in the Black Hills of WY and portions of south central SD. 500 mb analysis shows upper ridging centered over the Pacific Northwest and ridging over the midwest, putting our area under northerly flow. Today will be cool with seasonably breezy northerly winds as a high pressure system passes off to our north. The upper level pattern looks to be fairly stagnant for the next few days as the upper low meanders over the Great Lakes region and Ontario. The upper ridge will slowly drift eastward, the axis staying over the Rockies and keeping our area under northerly flow. Generally, the weather will stay dry with temperatures warming through the week. The pattern becomes more zonal towards the end of the week with mid-level flow shifting from northerly to westerly. Fire weather concerns may return in the latter half of next week as temperatures warm and sfc winds pick up. && .AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS Through 18Z Monday) Issued At 1119 AM MDT Sun Oct 16 2022 Localized MVFR CIGS near the southern Black Hills will slowly dissipate/become SCT by 20z.
