The dominant feature for the short term is a high-amplitude blocking ridge currently over southern British Columbia. The upper high at the center of the ridge will slowly drift southeastward through the next couple of days resulting in a continuation of fair weather with warm daytime highs-- around 10 to 15 degrees above normal, and lows at or just above normal. A high pressure ridge will remain positioned over the NRN Rockies through Thursday morning supporting a continuation of unseasonably warm daytime temperatures across the region. The ridge breaks down Thursday afternoon as a stronger westerly flow and the Pacific storm track overspreads the region Friday. A fairly robust storm system embedded in this flow will rotate into SRN Idaho Saturday resulting in a round of valley rain and higher mountain snowfall. Snow levels will drop quickly Saturday night into Sunday with a chance of a rain and snow mix possible within the Snake River Plain Sunday. Noticeably colder temperatures and windy conditions will accompany this system into the region Saturday and Sunday. Huston && .FIRE WEATHER...A dry and locally breezy NE surface flow will persist today in the wake of Saturday's back-door cold frontal passage. The upper ridge will shift east into the NRN Rockies today and redevelop tonight encouraging a return to unseasonably warm daytime temperatures and dry conditions Monday through Thursday. The ridge breaks down Thursday afternoon as a stronger westerly flow and the Pacific storm track overspread the region Friday. A fairly robust storm system embedded in this flow will rotate into SRN Idaho Saturday resulting in valley rain and higher mountain snow with falling snow levels late Saturday night into Sunday behind the trough passage with a mix of rain and snow possible within the Snake River Plain Sunday. Colder temperatures and windy conditions will accompany this system into the region Saturday and Sunday. The operational GFS continues to show a second storm system following Monday whereas the ECMWF is supportive of a low amplitude ridge redeveloping along the NW coast.
