846 FXUS63 KDLH 072053 AFDDLH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Duluth MN 353 PM CDT Fri Oct 7 2022 .DISCUSSION...(This evening through Thursday) Issued at 352 PM CDT Fri Oct 7 2022 Summary: A slow warm up on the way while keeping fairly dry. High pressure is firmly located over Minnesota. Meanwhile an area of low pressure will cross Hudson Bay causing the pressure gradient to increase and thus a response in the wind field giving breezy westerly winds tonight into Saturday. Clouds have been a little slow to clear today, so kept temperatures a bit warmer, but latest satellite trends suggest that that may have been the wrong decision as the cloud field is quickly eroding from west to east. Deep mixing of dry air tomorrow will give a mostly sunny day with some high clouds drifting over. A short wave will cross Sunday yet it will be hard-pressed to do too much in terms of any significant precipitation and most of this should be in the far western portion of the forecast area. High pressure returns afterwards with a longer wave trough moving in mid week which will give a much better shot at accumulating precipitation while also warming the region up – perhaps back into the 70s. Even included a mention of thunderstorms Tuesday evening in this package as the anonymously warm air makes its way into the Northland. && .AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Saturday afternoon) Issued at 1223 PM CDT Fri Oct 7 2022 A mass of slow moving MVFR clouds will slowly exit to the east this afternoon. Winds will eventually pick up from the west under VFR skies giving gusts to 20 kt for much of Saturday. IFR conditions not expected. && .MARINE... Issued at 352 PM CDT Fri Oct 7 2022 High pressure is dominant for the time being. An area of low pressure near Hudson Bay will affect the pressure gradient tonight into Saturday giving strong (15 to 20 gusting to 30 knot) westerly winds again, but gusts should remain below gale criteria, in the nearshore waters. Small craft advisories are in effect tonight into Saturday. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
