065 FXUS64 KJAN 160835 AFDJAN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Jackson MS 335 AM CDT Fri Sep 16 2022 ...New DISCUSSION... .DISCUSSION... Issued at 322 AM CDT Fri Sep 16 2022 Today and Tonight: A surface ridge will extend from the Deep South through the Northeast states today providing for continued mostly sunny and dry conditions. As the airmass continues to gradually modify and light winds become more southerly over much of the area, we'll see dewpoints tick up a few more degrees today. Similarly, daytime temps will be another degree or two higher and we won't be quite as cool tonight into Saturday morning. Still, our break from impactful weather rolls on as we head into the weekend. /DL/ Saturday through Thursday: Flow over the CONUS will quickly amplify this weekend as a low deepens off the U.S. West Coast. In response, a downstream ridge of high pressure is expected to develop and strengthen over the Southern High Plains/western Gulf Coast by early next week. It remains to be seen exactly how the pattern evolves later in the week, but a general consensus of guidance keeps ridging influences over the central and southeastern CONUS through the work week, while northwestern CONUS trough is slow to eject over the ridge. At the current time, this looks to leave a corridor for what is now Tropical Storm Fiona to move northward into a weakness of the ridge and eventually be picked up by passing troughs over the western Atlantic. Timing and strength of these various features will be monitored, but there is no current threat from Fiona along the Gulf Coast. Meanwhile, what is currently Eastern Pacific Tropical Depression Thirteen-E and an additional area of potential tropical development west of central Mexico are being monitored, and some possible system interaction with the West Coast trough/ridge pattern could occur by mid to late next week. The best course of action for the forecast is to stick with the consensus through the middle of the week. This means mostly dry conditions and warming temperatures through next week, but a slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm can't be ruled out around the Pine Belt in southern Mississippi as moisture creeps north on Saturday or Sunday. /NF/ && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1229 AM CDT Fri Sep 16 2022 Patchy fog can't be ruled out through sunrise this morning, mainly in river valleys.
