813 FXUS63 KUNR 091703 AFDUNR Area Forecast Discussion For Western SD and Northeastern WY National Weather Service Rapid City SD 1103 AM MDT Tue Aug 9 2022 .DISCUSSION...(Today Through Monday) Issued at 147 AM MDT Tue Aug 9 2022 Water vapor imagery depicts dry air over the northern Rockies and northern plains, beneath a building ridge. A surface trough stretches over eastern MT/WY. Beneath clear skies, winds are southeasterly 5 to 10 kts, and temperatures are in the 60s and 70s. Hot and mostly dry weather will continue for the next few days, as the upper ridge builds. With the passage of daily shortwaves, cannot rule out an isolated shower/storm over some part of the area each day; however, most places will remain dry. Today, the surface trough and some weak shortwave energy may allow for an isolated storm or two, mainly over the Black Hills, or in south central SD (where CAPE is highest). However, any precipitation would have to overcome low- level dry air. Similar conditions are expected for Wednesday, and so have added some slight chance PoPs over the Black Hills. Highs through Friday will be in the 90s and 100s. Stronger shortwave energy will bring a slight cooldown (highs still in the upper 80s and 90s) this weekend, along with better chances for showers/storms. && .AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS Through 18Z Wednesday) Issued At 1101 AM MDT Tue Aug 9 2022 VFR conditions are expected through the forecast period. && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued At 147 AM MDT Tue Aug 9 2022 Hot and dry weather continues. Minimum relative humidity will dip into the teens and 20s today, driest across northeastern WY. However, winds will be relatively light. On Wednesday afternoon, relative humidity is expected to be around 15% across northeastern WY and southwestern SD. Southeasterly winds will be breezy, but may still be too light to warrant headlines. Breezy and dry conditions are expected again on Thursday, but at this time it looks like the breeziest areas won't coincide with the driest. && .UNR WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... SD...None.
