472 FXUS63 KDDC 031642 AFDDDC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Dodge City KS 1142 AM CDT Sun Jul 3 2022 ...Updated Short Term Discussion... .SHORT TERM...(This afternoon through Monday) Issued at 1136 AM CDT Sun Jul 3 2022 South winds a bit breezy this afternoon up to 20-25 mph warming temperatures back into the mid to upper 90s. Improved skies will clear overnight with upper level ridging and northwest flow aloft the main player for the next couple of days. Overnight lows mild once again in the low to mid 70s with a stronger warmup Monday afternoon into the triple digits. With leeside troughing aiding in the downslope warming affect, southwest winds will drive these temperatures up gusting up to 30-35 mph Monday afternoon being more mild overnight into Tuesday morning down to the mid to upper 70s. Thunderstorm activity later this Sunday evening looks to see the bulk of it to the north of the CWA. Possible isolated storms from Hamilton to Scott and Trego counties look to be the only areas at risk for more frequent lightning and winds over 40 mph being possible. Any severe threat will be more into north central Kansas and into Nebraska, so once again, the marginal risk extending to the I-70 counties are of no need with only general thunder expected. Otherwise, dry conditions for most and for all the remainder of the short term forecast heading to the long term mid week before the next chance for more widespread precipitation. .LONG TERM...(Monday through Saturday) Issued at 320 AM CDT Sun Jul 3 2022 Hot weather can be expected for the next week given the upper level ridging. A weak frontal boundary may stall across western Kansas by Friday, with a slightly better chance for t-storms and perhaps even a slight cool off. Aside from very small chances for late day and night time t-storms,this will be a mainly dry pattern, with temperatures 100 to 105 or higher most days. && .AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Monday afternoon) Issued at 1131 AM CDT Sun Jul 3 2022 VFR conditions through the entirety of the period.
