652 FXUS64 KHUN 290515 AFDHUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 1215 AM CDT Sun May 29 2022 ...New AVIATION... .NEAR TERM... (Rest of tonight) Issued at 924 PM CDT Sat May 28 2022 High pressure centered over northern Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee this evening has led to clear skies and calm winds. These conditions will lead to efficient radiational cooling overnight, with morning lows on Sunday dropping into the upper 50s to around 60. We also are expecting patches of fog to develop in the normal spots close to the Tennessee River, near bodies of water, and in a few rural, cooler spots. && .SHORT TERM... (Sunday through Tuesday) Issued at 201 PM CDT Sat May 28 2022 Upper ridging will build eastward on Sunday as high pressure moves east of the Appalachians, while an amplified trough begins to dig along the Rockies. Surface winds will veer to the south, with southerly flow filtering in moisture by the afternoon. Given the height rises and return flow, temps will be a few degrees higher on Sunday as they rise into the mid 80s. Upper ridging will strengthen over the region through Memorial Day and the first part of the new work week, as the aforementioned trough slowly slides eastwards. Persistent southerly flow and mostly clear skies will mean warming temperatures, with highs reaching into the lower 90s by Tuesday. Overnight lows will be on the mild side, with temps in the mid to upper 60s. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday night through Saturday) Issued at 201 PM CDT Sat May 28 2022 The trough to our west will broaden and weaken Tuesday night as a closed low lifts into Canada. Another upper level low will close over the Rockies and then quickly open again as it moves into the Plains. Meanwhile, a ridge will remain anchored over the eastern CONUS and maintain its hold over the TN Valley. The second wave will shift eastward through the Plains on Wednesday and reach the Mississippi Valley by Thursday. A weak cold front trailing from the parent low well to the north will approach the area on Thursday, which may bring a chance for rain across the area. Given the strength of the ridge, there's a potential for this boundary to weaken considerably by the time it gets here and with limited moisture, we may not see a very high coverage of rain. There's also some uncertainty regarding the timing, so will maintain the blended guidance and cap PoPs in the chance category. This boundary may linger over the region on Friday, with isolated thunderstorms possible. Temps through the long term will be relatively warm, with highs in the lower 80s and overnight lows in the upper 60s. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1215 AM CDT Sun May 29 2022 VFR conditions tonight at the terminals. Expect patches of fog to develop again around 08Z tonight, impacting MSL but less likely at HSV. Have put IFR conditions with tempo LIFR at MSL to reflect fog. That should clear out around 13Z. VFR conditions expected through the rest of Sunday as high pressure keeps skies mostly clear. && .HUN WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... AL...None.
