320 FXUS63 KICT 251134 AFDICT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wichita KS 634 AM CDT Wed May 25 2022 .SHORT TERM...(Today through Friday night) Issued at 316 AM CDT Wed May 25 2022 Main challenge and concern is additional rainfall later today thru this evening across central Kansas. Closed mid/upper low will move slowly east-southeast from the central high Plains today into the Ozarks by midday Thursday. The short term models are in general agreement in developing an area of rain on the east side of the low across the Flint Hills and eastern Kansas later this morning into the early afternoon. However, the band of slow moving rain which develops on the back side of the low this evening in the mid-level trowal stream is expected to provide higher rainfall totals across much of central Kansas. The heaviest of this additional rainfall is expected to fall north of the area that received the greatest amounts on Tuesday. So no flood watch is planned with this forecast issuance, though the day shift will need to monitor short term trends if any southward shift in the heavier rainfall is expected. Otherwise, a clearing trend is expected from west to east across the area during Thursday in the wake of the departing low. A more significant warming trend will commence on Friday as shortwave ridging aloft moves over the area with southerly flow at the surface. Darmofal .LONG TERM...(Saturday through Tuesday) Issued at 316 AM CDT Wed May 25 2022 Modest southwesterly flow aloft will prevail across the central Plains over the holiday weekend with very warm and breezy southerly surface flow. This will result in temperatures above climo and dry weather. The developing western conus upper trof looks to stay west of the area into Tuesday so it looks to stay dry and very warm. KED && .AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Thursday morning) Issued at 630 AM CDT Wed May 25 2022 IFR and LIFR conditions are expected for all terminal through this TAF period. Light rain and drizzle will be prevalent for the first six hours of the TAF. By 18Z to 20Z, a larger area of showers will be moving into the region and will bring LIFR conditions to most of the terminals. KSLN will likely be the main terminal to receive the bulk of the rain today. By 00Z, the heavier rain is expected to diminish and be reduced scattered light showers or drizzle through. IFR conditions will remain through the overnight. Metzger && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
