172 FXUS65 KREV 160847 AFDREV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 147 AM PDT Mon May 16 2022 .SYNOPSIS... Dry and warm to start the workweek with breezy conditions this afternoon and then lighter winds for Tuesday. More breezy conditions arrive along with cooler temperatures for the second half of the week as a system passes by to the north. Plan on dry conditions with no significant precipitation showing up. && .DISCUSSION... The warm weather streak continues through midweek with high temperatures across western Nevada in the low to mid-80s and near 70 for Sierra valleys. Late afternoon and evening westerly breezes will develop again today, but Tuesday will be the pick of the week with very light winds forecast! More active weather returns Wednesday into Thursday as a trough migrates across the Pacific Northwest into Montana. Ensemble cluster analysis indicates that the cold core of the low will remain far north of the region, but we will still see some impacts across the Sierra and western Nevada. Thankfully the northward trajectory of the system will keep temperatures warmer and limit the wind gust potential as well. Unfortunately, the chances for precipitation will also be limited to areas outside of the Sierra and western Nevada. You win some, you lose some! Daytime high temperatures will drop into the low 70s for the lower valleys and 60s in the Sierra on Friday. Still pretty pleasant if you ask me. Winds will increase on Wednesday ahead of the system and persist into Thursday with wind gusts 25 to 35 mph with locally higher wind gusts possible. We may see some impacts to travel and recreation with potential for areas of blowing dust in the Basin and Range and choppy conditions for area lakes. West winds Wed- Thur will swing east Thursday night into Friday with the potential for some stronger easterly ridge winds Thursday night into Friday morning. Ensemble clusters are leaning a bit toward high pressure strengthening off the eastern Pacific for next weekend which would herald yet another warming and drying trend. The blended guidance is actually showing a few sneaky 90 degree marks for early next week, with the lower end of the guidance around 80 degrees. -Edan && .AVIATION...
