647 FXUS64 KHUN 251444 AFDHUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 844 AM CST Fri Feb 25 2022 .NEAR TERM...(Rest of Today) Issued at 844 AM CST Fri Feb 25 2022 Temperatures have tumbled since midnight across the TN Valley thanks to a cold front that is SE of the CWFA as of this update. CAA has dropped temps from the 60s around midnight to current readings in the middle/upper 30s for much of the Central and NW portions of the area, with several locations in the SE portions of the area still holding on in the lower/middle 40s. A look at the latest visible satellite imagery shows an abundance of low cloud cover in place across much of the region, with a few breaks noted now across NW AL. Also of note is that we've gotten a few reports of flurries across these areas, which will transition to sprinkles through midday as temps warm to forecasted highs in the upper 40s (to lower 50s SE). Precip will come to an end by early aftn for most locations, with a few lingering sprinkles possible in the SE portions of the area through mid- afternoon. Temperatures will be the main wx element to monitor today as what insolation we receive battles the ongoing CAA through the day. Aside from adding mention of flurries to the grids for the update, no other changes were made aside from tweaking hourly observational trends for the morning hours. .SHORT TERM...(Tonight through Sunday) Issued at 303 AM CST Fri Feb 25 2022 An increase of upglide and development of another system to our west will keep mostly cloudy skies in place tonight. Despite the surface high being cold, air within it should moderate, thus lows only in the lower 30s. The system to our west becoming better organized will bring another return of rain to the area Saturday afternoon and especially in the night. Moderating temperatures a tad warmer should make the weekend rain an all liquid event, with lows Sat night in the upper 30s to lower 40s. As the system and moisture move east of the region, rain should end Sunday morning from west to east. A somewhat faster return of more direct solar insolation should make for a slightly warmer start of a new week, with highs in the lower 50s. Lows Sun night should cool to around freezing with mostly clear skies expected. .LONG TERM...(Sunday night through Thursday) Issued at 303 AM CST Fri Feb 25 2022 A tranquil weather pattern is expected during the long term forecast period. The upper level pattern consists of a broad ridge over the Western US and a trough along the East Coast. In between the two upper level features, SFC high pressure along the Gulf Coast will dominate the sensible weather across the Tennessee Valley. A warming trend is forecast through the work week starting out with afternoon highs in the upper 50s on Monday. By Thursday, high temperatures top out in the upper 60s. Dry weather should continue through the end of the work week, but some changes may be in store as we head into next weekend when the upper level ridge begins to breakdown. && .AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Saturday morning) Issued at 540 AM CST Fri Feb 25 2022 Winds across the area have become W-NW at 5-15kt in the wake of a recent cold front passage. Post frontal clouds should continue at least MVFR CIGs into the early afternoon. A rounds of rain yet to impact the area (especially east of I-65) could cause brief reductions of CIG/VSBY values to IFR. Enough dry air filtering from the NW should produce VFR CIGs from the late afternoon into the evening. Another system developing to our west will result in an increase in mid altitude clouds late in the TAF. && .HUN WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... AL...NONE.
