Minor tree damage and flattened corn was observed. The width of the tornado was around 50 yards, and the damage was rated at an EF-0. Interestingly, the WSR-88D identified debris (lowering correlation coefficient), likely from the lofted corn stalks. .Defiance Tornado... Rating: EF-3 Estimated Peak Wind: 165 mph Path Length /statute/: 21 miles Path Width /maximum/: 100 yards Fatalities: 1 Injuries: 2 Start Date: 12/10/2021 Start Time: 7:35 PM CST Start Location: 2NW Augusta, MO Start Lat/Lon: 38.5982/-90.9085 End Date: 12/10/2021 End Time: 7:57 PM CST End Location: 2SE Harvester, MO End Lat/Lon: 38.7196/-90.5556 The tornado developed one mile north of the intersection of Highway T and Highway 94 in southwestern St. Charles County around 7:35 PM CDT. Two houses had minor damage and one outbuilding was destroyed. The tornado continued northeast and strengthened as it approached Highway F, northwest of Defiance. Multiple homesteads and farms suffered varying degrees of property damage along Highway F to Highway 94. Two homes were completely destroyed. The first home was 110 years old and did not appear to have any anchoring to the concrete foundation. The second home just 100 yards east of the first was swept clean to the subfloor, which was still anchored to the concrete foundation. One fatality and two injuries occurred at this location. The damage was rated EF3 with winds to 165 mph. The tornado continued northeast, crossing the Missouri River and Howell Island before entering St. Louis County in Chesterfield Valley. The tornado caused extensive tree damage along the river, a mere half mile from a large outlet mall. It crossed Highway 40/61/Interstate 64 east of the Boone Bridge causing minor damage to vehicles that were on the highway. The tornado continued northeast, crossing the Missouri River again, back into St. Charles County near Greens Bottom Road. Here additional tree damage, broken power poles, and structural damage was noted.
