A winter storm is expected to move across the Upper Great Lakes Sunday through Monday. As this system approaches, widespread, wet snowfall will move across Upper Michigan from west to east, beginning early Sunday morning. There is the potential for 6 inches or more of snow by Sunday evening. Snow will diminish for a time Sunday evening, then lake enhanced snow will develop late Sunday night and Monday morning as blustery northwest winds develop off of Lake Superior. An additional 6 inches or more of snow is possible across western Upper Michigan late Sunday night and Monday morning. The moderate snow and blustery conditions will spread east across northern Upper Michigan by sunrise Monday, but additional snow accumulations in that area during Monday morning should not be as high as what occurs over western Upper Michigan. The snow Sunday will be wet, which will make for hazardous driving conditions during the day Sunday. It will also be heavier, so snow shoveling could require more effort and lead to quicker exhaustion. Snowfall rates may be heavy at times, leading to reduced visibilities. Late Sunday night and Monday morning, gusty northwest winds will develop, resulting in areas of blowing snow near Lake Superior. The Monday morning commute near Lake Superior may be difficult, especially across western Upper Michigan. $$ TAP/Rolfson
