815 FXUS62 KFFC 012344 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 644 PM EST Wed Dec 1 2021 .PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 250 PM EST Wed Dec 1 2021/ ..Afternoon Area Forecast Discussion... SHORT TERM /Tonight through Thursday Night/... Weak short wave sweeping through the mid-Mississippi Valley into the Ohio Valley has had a hard time generating any precipitation south of the Missouri bootheel this afternoon. Still looks like we will only see some degree of increasing mid/high-level clouds with the tail of the wave as it zips through the region overnight. No real surface frontal boundary with the wave this far south and no cooling seen behind the system tomorrow with temperatures expected to remain well above seasonal normals over the next 36 hours, especially highs. 20 LONG TERM /Friday through Wednesday/... The long term period begins on Friday with the northern stream jet well to our north and fairly weak upper-level flow over north and central GA. A couple weak vort maxes will drift eastward from the ArkLaMiss to the Carolinas over the course of Saturday and Sunday, with the main impact being just an increase in cloud cover over the area. Some light showers across far northwest GA cannot be ruled out on Sunday, but for now do not have any measurable precip in the forecast. Temps will remain well above average through Sunday thanks to ample daytime heating each day. An upper-level trough will shift across the Great Lakes region Sunday night through Monday, driving a cold front across the CWA. PWATs will surge to above-normal values of around 1 inch (the mean is around 0.6 inch). The global models are highlighting the potential for ample bulk shear on Monday, but instability appears to be meager with <150 J/kg of GFS-progged MUCAPE, so have left thunder out of the grids. For now, rainfall totals with this feature are 0.25 inch to 0.75 inch mainly north of I-85. The GFS and ECMWF suggest another FROPA on Wednesday, though this far out there are timing/placement differences with its associated precip. Have chance PoPs areawide for now.
