712 FXUS62 KKEY 190038 AFDKEY Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 838 PM EDT Mon Oct 18 2021 .DISCUSSION... High pressure anchored near Tennessee is continuing to bridge into the Florida Keys and coastal waters. The front that was on the leading edge of the air mass change is undergoing frontolysis south of our area, and is no longer a sensible weather concern for the Keys. There has been a noticeable change in surface dewpoint over the past few hours, dropping around 4 degrees since late afternoon heading into the mid 60s. The stratocu deck which was around the Lower Keys earlier is beginning to push off to the southwest and will likely mix out overnight. The cloud deck is around 9 kft, which is right at the base of the subsidence inversion. The evening sounding from Key West shows a gradual, but continuing, drying trend, as overall PWAT has dropped below 1.5 inches. The drier air, and near zero chance of rain, should persist through tomorrow evening, if not longer, as the aforementioned ridge begins to slide eastward towards the Atlantic. Winds across the marine waters, which is the only sensible weather concern at the moment, will persist out of the northeast to east from 15 to 20 knots overnight and tomorrow. Overall, no changes are necessary to the afternoon forecast package, as conditions look to be a little cooler and less humid than the past week. && .MARINE... Mainly moderate northeast to east breezes are expected to persist over the Florida Keys coastal waters through at least least Wednesday. No precipitation is expected through tomorrow, with only a slight chance of isolated showers tomorrow night. With the moderate breezes, small craft should exercise caution overnight and through tomorrow on all unprotected waters. && .AVIATION... VFR conditions will prevail at both EYW and MTH island terminals through Tuesday evening. Winds will remain out of the northeast to east at 7 to 10 knots with occasional gusts near 20 knots, mainly at EYW. && .KEY WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... FL...None.
