965 FXUS66 KPDT 082032 AFDPDT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pendleton OR 132 PM PDT Fri Oct 8 2021 .SHORT TERM...Tonight through Sunday...The upper level trough over the region will push to the east overnight with a temporary ridge of high pressure building in from the west. This will provide clearing skies with showers over the eastern mountains ending this evening. The upper portion of the John Day Basin could see freezing temperatures overnight so a freeze warning is in effect. Warm and dry conditions will prevail on Saturday. Then the next weather system will arrive Sunday as an upper level trough approaches from the Gulf of Alaska. This will push a cold front across the forecast area Sunday morning with some light precipitation followed by breezy to windy winds through the evening. Tis the season for blowing dust due to many fields recently being plowed and planted so blowing dust could be an issue Sunday afternoon through evening. Temperatures will cool Sunday as a result of the cold frontal passage. .LONG TERM...Monday through Friday...Cooler conditions and showers Sunday night could leave a light dusting of snow above 4000 feet with some showers lingering over the mountains Monday coming to and end by evening. Departing system will give way to a temporary ridge of high pressure Tuesday before another weather system impacts the area Wednesday with a weak cold frontal passage. This system looks to be lacking in precipitation other than a few showers over the mountains. It will produce some breezy westerly winds. A few showers will continue through this afternoon from the Blue Mountains eastward but should not affect ALW or PDT.
