900 FXUS64 KBMX 080831 AFDBMX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Birmingham AL 331 AM CDT Fri Oct 8 2021 .SHORT TERM... /Updated at 0310 AM CDT Fri Oct 08 2021/ Today and Saturday. The upper level low will continue to lift northward today, toward the Great Lakes, as its associated trough axis moves eastward into Georgia by this evening. Northwesterly upper level flow will usher in drier air as high pressure and northerly winds establish themselves at the surface. Overnight fog will lift within a couple hours of sunrise this morning. Lingering moisture, mainly across the east, and weak low level convergence may result in a shower or two near the state line today, but coverage will be limited as drier air arrives. Will not carry any pops after 12Z. A dry forecast will continue through Saturday as upper level ridging shifts across the Mississippi River Valley. Look for highs in the 80s both days with lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s. 14 .LONG TERM... /Updated at 0310 AM CDT Fri Oct 08 2021/ Sunday through Thursday. Dry and warm weather on Sunday will be provided by a deep-layer ridge axis over the region. As a strong upper-level trough moves from the Southern Plains to the Great Lakes on Monday, the approaching cold front should have little moisture to work with. A couple of showers cannot be ruled out in the northwestern counties Monday afternoon into Tuesday as the front fizzles out. With the ridge building back in across the region in a big way for Wednesday and Thursday, dry and warm conditions will continue. 87/Grantham && .AVIATION... 06Z TAF Discussion. Aviation concerns will occur in the first 6-8 hours of the forecast, as fog and low clouds result in flight restrictions overnight. Areas of fog are already visible on satellite to begin the period, mainly in valleys and low lying areas, with vis bouncing from MVFR to LIFR. Expect this to continue for several hours, before visibilities settle around 1 mile or less for most terminals around sunrise. Conditions improve quickly, with VFR vis and mostly clear skies by 14-15Z. 14 && .FIRE WEATHER... Patchy fog will lift quickly this morning, with mostly clear skies and light winds expected today as drier air overspreads the area. There might be a shower or two in the far east today, but most of the area will be dry, and remain dry through at least the weekend. Minimum RH values will drop into the 45-55 percent range this afternoon, but trend upward over the weekend. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
