The southern portion of the trough will be the dominate feature as it moves into California Friday and then into the Great Basin Saturday. A southwest flow ahead of the trough axis will advect some moisture across far eastern Oregon late tonight and Friday generating a few light showers. A brief ridging pattern will follow the trough passage on Saturday for overall dry conditions. Temperatures will remain seasonable through the short term. Some areas of near freezing temperatures will be possible again tonight with areas of frost but no freeze warnings expected. LONG TERM...Sunday through Thursday...The upper level ridge will quickly move off to the east on Sunday as the next Gulf of Alaska system moves into western Canada and the Pacific Northwest. This will increase chances of precipitation across the forecast area Sunday. Precipitation will taper off Sunday night into mountain showers which will linger into Monday. Snow levels will lower to 3000 to 4000 feet during this time with some light snow accumulations possible in the mountains and higher transportation routes. The trough moves off to the east late Monday and Tuesday with another transitory ridge of high pressure passing over the region. This will give way to yet another upper level trough system coming out of the Gulf of Alaska and more precipitation chances Wednesday into Thursday. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
