856 FXUS66 KOTX 061818 AFDOTX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Spokane WA 1118 AM PDT Wed Oct 6 2021 .SYNOPSIS... A cold front will bring a chance for light showers and more importantly, usher fall-like temperatures into the region today. Look for these cooler conditions to continue for the remainder of the workweek. Many locations will experience near or below freezing overnight temperatures starting Thursday morning onward. The next round of showers and breezy winds looks to be by next Sunday. Cool, quiet weather expected for start of next week. && .DISCUSSION... Our cold front has pushed into north central Idaho and continues the trek eastward, as evidenced by this morning's satellite and lingering narrow band of light precipitation. Amounts have been light; several hundredths from the L-C Valley north to the Selkirk Mountains. Winds today will be breezy out of the southwest behind the front and skies will clear through the day. This along with the cold upper level temperatures will allow overnight temperatures the next two nights (including tonight) to cool efficiently to near freezing for many places, some locations in the northern valleys and plains will be near or at freezing with widespread frost expected. However, it's climatologically time we see low temperatures in the upper 30s so we aren't all that abnormally early. Our next focus will begin to shift to our stronger storm system moving through this weekend with gusty winds on Sunday, mountain snow and valley rain, and beyond that a longer period of cold overnight temperatures. /Dewey && .AVIATION... 18Z TAFS: Light showers moving into central ID will bring ceilings between 3000-5000 ft and occasional 2000 ft ceilings. VFR conditions are expected to prevail once the showers move east by 00z this afternoon. Winds will be breezy out of the southwest. Clearing skies from west to east and cold overnight temperatures will allow chances for mountain valley fog to develop and possibly closer to Deer Park, Coeur d'Alene, Pullman however confidence is rather low and have kept it out of the TAFs at this time. /Dewey && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
