234 FXUS63 KGID 082347 AFDGID AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Hastings NE 647 PM CDT Wed Sep 8 2021 ...Aviation Update... .DISCUSSION...(This evening through Wednesday) Issued at 255 PM CDT Wed Sep 8 2021 The dry air that resulted in low temperatures in the 40s and 50s this morning has allowed temperatures to rebound quickly into the 80s this afternoon. Nearly cloud-free skies persist across the area currently, with only a few midlevel clouds expected through tonight. Overnight lows are expected to be a couple degrees warmer than this morning, but overall pretty similar. Dry conditions continue Thursday and Friday. The only significant change will be increasing heat, especially on Friday as the upper level ridge moves overhead. Widespread highs in the 90s are likely and some parts of Kansas and western Nebraska could approach or exceed 100 degrees. A cold front is forecast to move into the area on Saturday. As a result, the temperature forecast becomes a little more uncertain. Northern areas may dip down a few degrees, but southern areas will likely still make a run into the upper 90s. The shortwave trough responsible for this front may produce a few showers or thunderstorms, but this likely will not be anything significant or widespread. The upper level pattern then remains more zonal with occasional perturbations bringing slight chances for rain/t-storms Sunday night thorugh Monday. It still looks like the best chance for appreciable rainfall will be with the next front Tuesday or Tuesday night. But even then, there is a chance that this ends up being largely south of the forecast area. && .AVIATION...(For the 00Z KGRI/KEAR TAFS through 00Z Friday) Issued at 647 PM CDT Wed Sep 8 2021 VERY high confidence in VFR ceiling and dry conditions through the period...high confidence in VFR visibility. About the only possible caveat to VFR would be a VERY outside chance of some light haze around sunrise, but even this appears rather improbable in this seasonably-dry airmass. Otherwise, some passing mid level clouds (based around 8K ft) are possible overnight, but otherwise mainly clear skies throughout. Sustained winds will average around-to-below 10KT throughout the period, with a light speed/variable direction regime tonight giving way to a bit steadier southeasterly breeze during the day Thursday (perhaps a few gusts up to around 15KT in the afternoon). && .GID WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
