427 FXUS63 KGID 061740 AFDGID AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Hastings NE 1240 PM CDT Mon Sep 6 2021 ...AVIATION UPDATE... .DISCUSSION...(Today through Sunday) Issued at 405 AM CDT Mon Sep 6 2021 Quiet weather in the forecast over the course of the next week as high pressure to our west will be the dominant weather feature and help keep the local area dry...steering any potential weather systems well to our north and east. As shortwave ridging transitions across the local area today...expect a rather warm early September afternoon as high temperatures approach 90 in most locations. This is slightly warmer than the previous forecast...but in the ballpark of expectations from the past few days as temps aloft warm and mostly sunny skies are observed across the local area. Given all the fire activity to our west...expect some haze in the upper levels of the atmosphere today...as depicted by the latest HRRR smoke runs...but surface visibilities should be unaffected as the smoke will remain elevated across the region. A weak and dry cold front will transition across the local area overnight tonight...dropping 850mb temps 6-8C from this afternoons levels. This should correspondingly drop temperatures back down closer to 80 for the middle portion of the week...before the high to our west begins to weaken and sink southeastward towards the end of the week as multiple disturbances weaken the northern extent of the ridge. While temperatures will climb a few degrees late in the week as the overall axis of the upper level ridge shifts east...temperatures should be modified and remain near to only slightly above normal thanks to the weakness in the upper level ridge across our area. While the upper level flow will eventually shift and become more zonal late in the period...the lack of embedded disturbances means dry weather will likely prevail and the current forecast remains dry through at least next weekend. && .AVIATION...(For the 18Z KGRI/KEAR TAFS through 18Z Tuesday) Issued at 1238 PM CDT Mon Sep 6 2021 VFR conditions expected through the end of the TAF period. Winds will gradually pick up slightly this afternoon out of the south at around 10 kts. A cold front will pass through the area late overnight/ early tomorrow morning and will turn winds to northerly. Expect breezier winds tomorrow with gusts to around 25-30 kts possible at times. && .GID WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... NE...NONE. KS...NONE. && $$ DISCUSSION...Rossi AVIATION...Shawkey
