Issued at 335 AM CDT Mon Sep 6 2021 Forecast Key Points: - Warm Today, Cooler Tomorrow, Warming Up Wed - Sun - Dry Conditions into Next Week As of 09Z Monday morning, northwest mid-level flow was present across the Plains with a ridge across the southwest US. The surface ridge from yesterday will move east of the area by afternoon, allowing low-level WAA to return. Boundary layer mixing heights are forecast to range from near 900 mb in east-central KS to around 850 mb in north-central. As a result, afternoon highs are progged to range from the mid-80s across east-central KS to the low-90s across north-central KS. Transitioning into the extended period, a shortwave trough is forecast to eject from the northern Plains into the Upper Midwest Tuesday. An attendant surface trough axis is expected to traverse the forecast area, reducing temperatures to the upper 70s/low 80s for Wednesday. Limited available moisture should keep the area dry Tuesday. Temperatures will be on the rise once again for the second half of the week as the western US ridge overspreads the central and southern Plains.
