983 FXUS63 KLBF 261752 AFDLBF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 1252 PM CDT Sat Jun 26 2021 .SHORT TERM...(Today through Sunday) Issued at 345 AM CDT Sat Jun 26 2021 Active weather will continue through the short term as an upper level trough pushes across the central Plains. This trough will support some isolated convection this afternoon and evening. Best location to see development will be across the eastern Panhandle and into the central Sandhills where the best instability and lift will be situated. Even then, instability remains weak and therefore, not anticipating any severe storms tonight. A better chance of storms returns on Sunday afternoon and evening. As the trough deepens across the High Plains, forcing will increase leading to convective initiation. With better CAPE and steeper low level lapse rates Sunday evening, thunderstorms will be allowed to develop. While widespread severe storms are not expected, a few isolated stronger or briefly severe storms may still be possible. At this time, SPC does not have our region outlooked, but all signs are indicating it might be necessary in a future update, even if it is just a marginal risk. Otherwise, clouds and rain will keep temperatures on the cooler side of guidance. Expect highs to only rise into the 70s today and tomorrow, with lows dropping into the 50s. .LONG TERM...(Sunday night through Friday) Issued at 345 AM CDT Sat Jun 26 2021 The active pattern continues into Monday as the upper level trough begins to move out of the region. In its wake, a weak upper level low is expected to develop. This will keep rain and isolated thunderstorm chances around through Monday evening. Dry and quiet conditions will then return for Monday night through the rest of the extended period. A strong upper level ridge will build across the western US resulting in surface high pressure to develop across the central Plains. After another cooler day on Monday due to continued rain and clouds, temperatures will begin to climb once again on Tuesday and through the rest of the week. High temperatures return to the mid to upper 80s by Friday with lows gradually rising as well into the upper 50s to low 60s by Friday night. && .AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Sunday afternoon) Issued at 1249 PM CDT Sat Jun 26 2021 VFR conditions are expected to persist for the next 24 hours across western and north central Nebraska. Gusty northerly winds will last into the late afternoon, then decrease and begin to shift to the northwest into the evening. After the gusts, winds should be 10 knots or less. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy with the possibility of showers and thunderstorms through the forecast period. && .LBF WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
