An upper level trough will extend from the Great Lakes southwest into north Texas. Northerly flow aloft will exist across Nebraska. This afternoon, an area of 0-3km most unstable capes from 500-900 J/kg will extend across areas east of Ainsworth, North Platte and Hayes Center. 850-700mb lapse rates will be near 9C/km. These areas can expect a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms developing 19Z, lasting until 01Z. Coverage looks isolated and a few storms could become briefly strong. Highs today will mainly range in the upper 70s, with low 80s parts of the northeast Sandhills. Tonight, a thermal ridge will develop across the Central and Northern High Plains. 850mb temperatures across western NE will warm to 17-19C with a light southwest wind developing. Expecting a fairly strong inversion in the low levels with lows from the low to mid 50s. Thursday, the upper ridge across the western U.S will build into the region. This will signal a strong warmup into the mid to upper 80s which will be 5 to around 10 degrees above normal. Dry conditions and mostly sunny skies expected. .LONG TERM...(Thursday night through Tuesday) Issued at 303 AM CDT Wed Jun 2 2021 The upper ridge will flatten out from the Desert Southwest into the Central Plains on Friday, with most highs near 90, and even near 95 at Valentine. On Saturday and Sunday, the northern stream will extend from the Pacific Northwest and Northern Plains, while a weak closed low remains across TX into OK. Very warm temperatures will persist with highs 90 to 95 Saturday and upper 80 to around 90 Sunday. A weak surface trough Sunday afternoon could trigger a few storms late Sunday afternoon/evening across eastern areas. However, chances look too low for any mention at this time. Monday into Tuesday, upper ridging will build slightly along with an increase in dewpoints as southerly breezes transport Gulf moisture into the region. Highs 85 to 90.
