030 FXUS65 KSLC 040403 AFDSLC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT 1003 PM MDT Sat Apr 3 2021 .SYNOPSIS...High pressure will remain in place through the Sunday, resulting in dry conditions with near-record high temperatures. Gusty winds will develop Monday ahead of a storm system that will move through the area late Monday into Tuesday. High pressure will return for the middle of the upcoming week. && .DISCUSSION...The low-amplitude longwave ridge encompassing much of the western and central CONUS will gradually flatten and shift east tonight. While temperatures will remain very warm tomorrow, perhaps slightly warmer across the south, they will trend slightly cooler across the north. Otherwise, generally quiet weather continues tonight through tomorrow with increasing high clouds. Winds will increase a bit tomorrow and more so on Monday ahead of the next storm system. The winds, combined with low humidities, will create hazardous fire weather conditions where fuels have been deemed critically dry. The cold front associated with the storm will cross Utah late Monday afternoon through Monday night, bringing cooler temperatures back to the entire forecast area and a chance of precipitation across the north. Breezy postfrontal winds in the favored downslope areas of eastern Utah may continue result in hazardous fire weather conditions to those areas on Tuesday.
