338 FXUS64 KSJT 250804 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 304 AM CDT Thu Mar 25 2021 ...New SHORT TERM... .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 304 AM CDT Thu Mar 25 2021 Severe weather that was in the area earlier has moved east early this morning. There are still some light showers affecting areas mainly north of I-10, as the upper level trough axis continues to work its way to the east. The trough axis will be just east of the area around sunrise, which should move precipitation out as well. Skies will be clear or clearing by sunrise too, resulting in a mostly sunny day today. Temperatures should be generally cooler with west to northwest winds behind a cold front that moved through tonight. Overnight lows Saturday night will drop into the mid to upper 40s. && .LONG TERM... (Friday through Wednesday) Issued at 207 AM CDT Thu Mar 25 2021 Above normal temperatures are forecast Friday and Saturday. Highs will be in the upper 70s to mid 80s, with overnight lows in the upper 40s to lower 50s. The next upper level low/trough is forecast to approach West Central Texas late this weekend. The GFS continues to be more progressive than the ECMWF, with the trough over north Central Texas at 18Z Sunday, while the ECMWF has a low centered near El Paso. The GFS solution would result in much drier conditions Sunday into Monday, while the ECMWF solution would result in shower and thunderstorm chances for this period, especially across the southern half of the area. For now, kept PoPs in the slight chance/low end chance category, given the continued uncertainty. Highs on Sunday will be below seasonal normals, in the mid 60s to near 70 degrees, with highs on Monday reaching the lower 70s. A large upper level trough is then forecast to deepen across the Western CONUS late Monday into Tuesday, then track across the Plains late Tuesday into Wednesday. This will send a cold front through the region on Wednesday. At this point, the best rain chances associated with the front look to be across the southern half of the forecast area. Expect highs on Wednesday in the upper 60s to mid 70s, with highs on Thursday in the 60s. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1210 AM CDT Thu Mar 25 2021 Showers and thunderstorms are quickly moving east of the area, but some of this activity may linger at KJCT and KBBD through 07Z. Brief MVFR ceilings are possible at KJCT and KABI after 09Z, but confidence remains low, so kept prevailing VFR conditions for now. Gusty north to northwest winds will decrease to 5 to 10 knots after 09Z. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
