Areas of dense fog developed in nearly calm winds across parts of northeast Iowa and neighboring states, but elsewhere winds are from the south southeast at around 10 mph beneath virtually clear skies. Temperatures have gradually fallen into the 20s in most parts of Iowa. Generally south winds will increase today, with gusts reaching around 35 mph at times by this afternoon across northern Iowa. Clouds will also increase in the afternoon, with a little rain possible over eastern Iowa around this evening. Meanwhile relatively mild temperatures will persist, with highs from around 40 northeast to lower 50s south both today and Saturday. A cool front will then cross the region Saturday night, bringing chances for light rain over central and southern Iowa and a wintry mix over the north. Light snow or ice accumulations may be possible Saturday night generally north of Highway 20, especially toward the Minnesota border. Sunday will then see gusty northwest breezes and cooler temperatures, with afternoon highs only in the lower 30s north to lower 40s south. The first half of next week will be dry and quiet, with milder temperatures in the 40s to lower 50s returning by Tuesday and Wednesday. $$ Lee
