101 FXUS66 KHNX 062324 AAA AFDHNX Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Hanford CA 324 PM PST Sat Feb 6 2021 .UPDATE...Updated Air Quality Section. && .SYNOPSIS...Dry conditions with above average temperatures are expected across the region through Monday. A weak system will move through the region on Tuesday, and will bring light showers to the higher elevation of the Sierra National Forest and Yosemite areas. A return to a wetter, more active pattern is expected toward the end of next week. && .DISCUSSION...Patchy morning fog has given way to a sunny warm afternoon. With a strong ridge of high pressure still in control over the eastern Pacific, today's temperatures across the district will end up between 2 to 6 degrees above average for the date. For tonight into Sunday morning, portions of the valley will once again experience patchy dense fog. But, the fog will not be widespread, and will affect similar areas as Saturday morning. For Sunday, the aforementioned ridge will remain firmly in control over the region. Afternoon high temperatures will once again be anywhere between 4 to 8 degrees above average, with mostly sunny skies. The high pressure ridge will begin to flatten to a zonal flow on Monday. Minor synoptic cooling along with increasing cloud cover will lead to a decrease in the afternoon high temperatures. However, temperatures will still remain near average for a majority of the district. A weak, fairly unimpressive shortwave trough will drop through the central California interior on Tuesday. This will bring considerable cloudiness, but near-normal high temperatures. Latest guidance brings some very light snow showers, with little to no accumulation, to the higher elevations of the Sierra National Forest and Yosemite areas. This trough quickly ejects into the inter-mountain west on Wednesday as weak northwesterly flow moves back into the area. For Thursday through the end of next weekend, models as well as blended model guidance are still indicating a return to a wetter, more active pattern. && .AVIATION...Areas of IFR with local LIFR in fog are likely in the San Joaquin Valley between 12z and 17z Sunday.
