652 FXUS63 KARX 060751 AFDARX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service La Crosse WI 150 AM CST Sat Feb 6 2021 .SHORT TERM...(Today through Sunday Night) Issued at 150 AM CST Sat Feb 6 2021 Coldest air of the season continues to spill into the region. Temperatures as of 2 am were in the single digits above and below zero with wind chills of 15 to 25 below zero. Arctic intrusion continues through the weekend with this cold cyclonic flow ushering in a couple weak mid-level shortwave troughs. One of these trough rolls off the Northern Rockies this morning, bringing the likelihood of some light snow today across the Plains into IA/IL. Our southern forecast area (far northeast IA into far southwest WI) looks to be on the very northern periphery of this light snow where a dusting to 1 inch of snow is possible. Otherwise, very cold conditions persist today with highs only in the single digits above zero under filtered sunshine. Clearing skies expected tonight as that wave moves of the region and arctic high builds in. Fresh/deeper snowpack and clearing skies will allow temperatures to plunge into the teens and a few lower 20s below zero. Sunday will see highs only in the single digits below to single digits above zero. Meanwhile, looks like another weak mid-level shortwave trough ripples eastward through the Plains/southern IA/central IL Sunday/Sunday night. This would keep light snow chances south of the area. A wind chill advisory is in effect as well for much of the area through Sunday morning due to the combination of the very cold temperatures and northwest winds on the 5 to 15 mph, gusting around 20 mph at times. .LONG TERM...(Monday through Friday) Issued at 150 AM CST Sat Feb 6 2021 Very cold Arctic airmass keeping us in its grip through this next week. Highs look to be in the single digits above/below zero with lows in the 10 to 20 below range. We will also see a couple chances for some light snow through the period as weak mid-level waves continue to ripple through this arctic baroclinic zone. && .AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Saturday night) Issued at 947 PM CST Fri Feb 5 2021 Mainly VFR conditions expected through this TAF period. A period of mid-level clouds will spread across the region Saturday morning with clearing by late in the day. Any light snow associated with the trough passage is expected to remain south of the TAF sites. Winds will remain out of the northwest with gusts up to around 20 kts at times. && .ARX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
