040 FXUS64 KMOB 011735 AFDMOB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Mobile AL 1135 AM CST Mon Feb 1 2021 .NEAR TERM /Now Through Tuesday/...Deep upper troughing over the eastern CONUS slowly pushes east through the period, with the trough axis reaching the east coast by Tuesday. This leaves the local area in a deep-layer northwesterly flow as a ridge builds upstream over the central CONUS. At the surface, a strong pressure gradient between surface high pressure in the central CONUS and low pressure currently centered off the mid-Atlantic coast is driving the gusty winds we're experiencing today. A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST. The gradient begins to relax this evening and overnight tonight as that surface high builds eastward into the eastern CONUS. This shift also ushers in drier air in the low-levels, which should help to erode this pesky cloud cover that has plagued the area today. The overall pattern will continue to support cold and dry weather as temps run well below seasonal levels straight through Tuesday. Lows tonight dip into the upper 20s inland to low 30s along the coast, but with winds hovering in the 5-10 knot range, expect apparent temps to drop to the low to mid 20s across the entire area. Highs Tuesday only reach the low 50s, though with lighter winds and sunnier skies it will feel much nicer than today. /49 && .AVIATION... 18Z issuance...A bkn/ovc stratus deck continues to overspread the area this afternoon with cigs generally hovering in the 2500-3500 ft AGL range. These clouds gradually dissipate throughout the TAF period, first along the coast and from the west this evening, then elsewhere across the area tonight into Tuesday. Winds remain gusty and out of the north throughout the day today before gradually subsiding overnight tonight. Winds will be a little breezy again Tuesday, but not as strong as today. /49 && .MOB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... AL...Wind Advisory until 6 PM CST this evening for ALZ051>060-261>266.
