383 FXUS64 KSJT 022311 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 511 PM CST Sat Jan 2 2021 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Sunday) Issued at 155 PM CST Sat Jan 2 2021 Water vapor imagery this afternoon shows an upper low moving across eastern Oklahoma, with zonal flow aloft over our region, while visible satellite showed sunny skies across our forecast area. At the surface, west to southwest winds were occurring due to low pressure across eastern CO and high pressure over deep south Texas. As of 130 pm, temperatures were in the upper 40s to mid 50s, which is generally about 10-15 degrees warmer than 24 hours ago. This warming is due to warming of the 850 mb thermal ridge and the warmer downsloping westerly surface flow. Tonight and Sunday, the low will continue moving off to the northeast while a trailing surface low from eastern CO moves southeast through the Red River region, keeping our winds in a westerly direction. The 850 mb thermal ridge will strengthen a little further tonight and tomorrow which, along with the warmer, downsloping westerly winds, should lead to a little warmer lows tonight (low to mid 30s) and warmer highs Sunday (mid 50s to mid 60s). Mostly clear skies should continue. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday night through next Saturday) Issued at 215 PM CST Sat Jan 2 2021 Expect quiet, dry and warmer weather through early this week. Highs will be mainly in the 60s with lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s. A dry cold front will move through the area Wednesday bringing cooler temperatures and gusty north winds. A surface high pressure ridge will build south across Texas bringing lighter winds and cooler temperatures through the end of week. Highs will be in the 50s to lower 60s Friday and then only 50s Saturday. Lows will be in the upper 20s and 30s. Going with a dry forecast through the long term. && .AVIATION...
