746 FXUS64 KJAN 170323 AFDJAN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Jackson MS 923 PM CST Wed Dec 16 2020 .UPDATE... Updated for evening discussion. && .DISCUSSION... Clouds will begin to gradually clear as the night progresses. As clouds clear, this will make way for a little radiational cooling. Due to this temperatures for tonight will be colder than normal. Areas north of I-20 will see lows in the upper 20s and areas below I-20 will be near or at 30 degrees. Outside a cold night for the region, there were no need to make any real changes to the previous forecast, it was well on track./JNE/ Prior discussion below: Today and tonight... High pressure ridge at the surface over TX is building eastward behind the exiting storm system. Northwesterly winds will continue through the overnight, though lighter in general, 3-6kts. That northwesterly wind will usher in cooler and drier air. Dry air will help to erode the persistent cloud cover slowly overnight...setting up for an assist from radiational cooling mechanisms in addition to the standard CAA. As a result, overnight lows will drop to below freezing, ranging from the upper 20s to right around the freezing mark. Tomorrow will see the sunnier skies return, and the temperatures will gain a few degrees over today...highs climbing into the mid to upper 40s in most locations and near 50 in northeastern LA. Thursday night through Tuesday night...High pressure ridging will prevail over the area Thursday night and this combined with radiational cooling, will allow temperatures to fall into the mid/upper 20s over much of the area. High pressure will shift east on Friday and with the surface flow becoming more southeasterly, high temperatures will climb into the mid/upper 50s. Clouds will be on the increase Friday night into Saturday ahead of another wave and associated cold front. This front will move across the area Saturday afternoon and evening, but with limited moisture it looks like there will mainly be light rain associated with it as it moves through. The GFS/ECMWF diverge on there solutions Saturday night into Sunday, as the EC brings another wave across the area Sunday afternoon/evening and continues the rain over the southeast through this period. Currently the EC seems to be the outlier with this feature, so will lean towards the drier GFS/GEM/NBM. The airmass behind the boundary will not be overly cold, with lows in the 30s and 40s Saturday night and highs mainly in the 50s on Sunday. High pressure will build in on Monday and continue through Tuesday. Highs will climb into the 60s each day, with overnight lows in the 30s. /15/ && .AVIATION... 00Z TAF discussion: MVFR ceilings will gradually clear from the northwest overnight.
