259 FXUS66 KHNX 112356 AAA AFDHNX Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Hanford CA 356 PM PST Fri Dec 11 2020 .UPDATE...Updated Air Quality Section. && .SYNOPSIS... A cold front will move through the region today, bringing gusty wind through the wind-prone areas of Central California during the day. A couple more disturbances are likely to pass through northern California, bringing threat of light rain and high elevation snow in the Sierra. && .DISCUSSION... A few locations in Kern County have continued to be breezy, though should see those too diminish over the next hour or so. In the Southern Sierra Nevada along and east of the Kern River RH values have dropped into the single digits. These areas will remain dry throughout the day today with better recoveries expected tonight. A shortwave trough is digging across the Western CONUS today, with an inside slider track. This has brought some light showers to NorCal. This area of precipitation will spread southward throughout the day today, with Yosemite seeing precip by this afternoon/early evening. By morning most locations should have seen some precip. Sorry some locations will be rain shadowed. The current thinking is that will be the southeastern San Joaquin Valley, including western Kern. A second impulse will makes its way through on Sunday which will bring a second round of precipitation Sunday into Monday morning. Integrate water vapor transport analysis shows a high probability that a decent plume of moisture will slide in from the northwest overnight tonight. The directionality of the IVT points to an upward trend in precipitation relative to the past few days for Saturday. While not expecting drought break rainfall, it is definitely a welcome sight to see and does increase the potential for good wetting rains. Early next week, however, things do look like they will trended back to the dry side, though there is potential for a late week storm. The East Pacific Ridge is finally weakened enough for some winter storms to slide into the area. && .AVIATION... Areas of MVFR to local IFR visibilities in haze and mist in the San Joaquin Valley until 20Z Friday. Otherwise, VFR conditions will prevail for the next 24 hours across the Central CA Interior. && .AIR QUALITY ISSUES... On Saturday December 12 2020... Unhealthy for sensitive groups in Fresno...
