216 FXUS64 KBRO 071022 AFDBRO Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Brownsville TX 422 AM CST Mon Dec 7 2020 .SHORT TERM (Now through Tuesday): A sunny and mild day is expected today as surface high pressure settles across the region. Weak mid level ridging will provide subsidence over deep South Texas through the short term. High temperatures this afternoon should range from the mid 60s along the beaches to the low to mid 70s inland. Clear skies and light winds will support good radiational cooling tonight. Lows tonight are expected to fall into the low to mid 40s at most locations. Tuesday will be slightly warmer with highs from around 70 near the coast to the mid or upper 70s inland. && .LONG TERM (Tuesday Night through Sunday): Overhead ridging and surface high pressure will dominate local weather conditions Tuesday night through Wednesday night, but these features will start shifting east as well. A short wave trough positioned over Southern Arizona will eject northeast to the Southern Plains on Thursday, producing a slightly more southwesterly upper flow. The tail end of a cold front will extend south from this system into East Texas Thursday night, and a portion will extend even farther south, moving into deep South Texas and the lower RGV on Saturday. Upstream ridging will build over the area on Saturday, and the front will finish pushing through with the help of reinforcing high pressure. The forecast will be mainly dry, but isolated showers will begin to develop over the Gulf on Saturday, increasing in coverage tom scattered Saturday night into Sunday. Land areas may benefit some from this activity, but rain chances will be best right along the coast with silent pops farther inland. Sunday night into Monday the region will again be under ridging and high pressure. The warming trend will continue Thursday and Friday, with above high temperatures in the 80s. The front may limit high temperatures on Saturday a bit, with a cooling trend into Sunday and more seasonal highs in the 70s on Monday and Tuesday. Low temperatures in the wake of the front will bottom out Monday morning in the 40s and lower 50s. && .MARINE: Now through Tuesday...Favorable marine conditions will prevail along the lower Texas coast with high pressure in control. Low seas and light to moderate north winds are expected today through Tuesday. Tuesday night through Friday night...Tuesday night and Wednesday will be a transition period when light to moderate north winds shift to south as high pressure overhead moves east. Slightly stronger winds will be possible Thursday through Friday with pressure falls in the Plains and a tighter local pressure gradient. Small craft should exercise caution to low end small craft advisory conditions will be possible Thursday through Friday.
