853 FXUS65 KFGZ 282049 AFDFGZ Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ 149 PM MST Sat Nov 28 2020 .SYNOPSIS...Fog and low clouds are clearing this afternoon in eastern parts of the Little Colorado River valley. Another round of patchy fog is possible early Sunday morning for similar areas. Dry weather this weekend will last into next week. A cool down is possible by Wednesday with increasing wind speeds. && .DISCUSSION...Limited periods of patchy fog tonight will give way to quiet weather across northern Arizona through Tuesday. A dry frontal passage by Wednesday morning could create a colder period later next week with stronger northerly winds. Today and Sunday...Melting snowfall and residual boundary layer moisture in the eastern Little Colorado River valley have created the continued overcast skies and patchy fog near St. Johns, Petrified Forest National Park and Woodruff. Increasing surface temperatures and breaks in the sky cover though are greatly helping to decrease the fog coverage and is expected to be out of the area by late this afternoon. Although, patchy fog is reintroduced into those same regions after 3 AM MST on Sunday. Coverage of patchy fog is expected to be less than what occurred today. The northwest to southeast oriented surface gradient will tighten overnight across northern Arizona and result in increased northeasterly winds on Sunday. Sustained winds of 5-15 mph are likely with a few locations seeing afternoon wind gusts up to 20 mph, mainly along the Mogollon Rim and across the Coconino Plateau. Monday and Tuesday...Upper air pattern will continue to bring dry northwesterly flow over northern Arizona Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures on Monday and Tuesday are likely to be the warmest of the upcoming work week with daytime temperatures near normal. Wednesday to Friday...A dry cold front is progged to cross over Arizona by Wednesday and result in gusty north to northeast winds building over the region for Wednesday and Thursday, along with decreasing temperatures. At this point, any moisture looks to stay well into New Mexico so the forecast calls for a dry week ahead. Lighter wind and warming temperatures by Friday. && .AVIATION...For the 00Z package...Primarily VFR conditions over the next 24 hours.
