142 FXUS63 KOAX 201108 AFDOAX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Omaha/Valley NE 508 AM CST Fri Nov 20 2020 ...Updated Aviation Forecast Discussion... .DISCUSSION... Issued at 341 AM CST Fri Nov 20 2020 Satellite this morning showing near-zonal flow across the CONUS with just a smattering of clouds over the central Plains. At the surface a strong thermal boundary extended from low pressure centered over the western Great Lakes region to roughly southwestern KS. Just ahead of the front the environment was rather moist with Td in the Low 50 over northern/western MO and eastern KS. Today through Sunday night The large scale pattern will see little change over the next several days with the brunt of upper disturbances rushing along the U.S./Can border. However a series of minor impulses moving across the central Plains will combine with increasing isentropic glide to allow for scattered rain activity Saturday afternoon. Moisture return will be restricted though and any accumulations will be on the light side by events end Saturday night. Monday through Thursday As an upper ridge exits the region increasing DPVA associated with an approaching upper trough will induce leeside cyclogenesis over northeast CO. Southerly flow ahead of the low is progged to draw generous amounts of gulf moisture northward and phase with the increasing synoptic scale lift to allow for precip activity to develop over the central Plains. Given the generous return moisture will be on hand to tap the potential for relatively locally heavy rainfall will increase as well. Surprisingly so for this time of the year the environment is progged to overall be more supportive for rain with a brief periods of rain/snow mix here and there Monday into Tuesday night. Increasing heights will lead to a dry weather then Wednesday and Thursday. Today - mid/upper 50s Sat - upper 40s Sun - upper 40s/low 50s Mon - mid/upper 40s Tue - upper 40s/low 50s Wed - low/mid 50s Thu - upper 40s/low 50s && .AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Saturday morning) Issued at 507 AM CST Fri Nov 20 2020 A surface ridge will build into the area today and tonight. North winds today could approach 10-12 kt at KOMA and KLNK before weakening and veering to northeast tonight. A band of mid and high-level cloudiness (at or above FL100) stretching from the central Rockies into the mid MO Valley will persist today with a general increase in clouds expected at KOMA and KLNK this morning. && .OAX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
