384 FXUS65 KVEF 300911 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 211 AM PDT Fri Oct 30 2020 .SYNOPSIS...Dry weather, light winds, sunny skies and temperatures above seasonal normals can be expected through the middle of next week. && .DISCUSSION...Today through Thursday. Quiet weather is in store for the Desert Southwest through at least the middle of next week. Due to the light winds, lingering smoke from ongoing wildfires may funnel back into the area, particularly along the Owens Valley. A shortwave trough will form over our region over the next 24 hours that will reside just off the Baja Coast through the weekend before closing off and moving back across our area early next week. Would not be surprised if breezy conditions arise as a result, and moisture aloft that moves inland with the low will give us a slight increase in cloud cover Sunday and Monday. Otherwise, light winds, sunny skies, and above-average temperatures expected through the forecast period as a ridge of high pressure builds across the region midweek. The extended forecast for the end of next week through next weekend indicates moderate certainty of a pattern change in the form of a deep trough digging through the Desert Southwest once again. Details such as timing and strength are still being resolved. Impacts will likely include an increase in wind speeds and a drop in temperatures. Will elaborate on to what extent - if at all - we will experience these impacts over the next week as our confidence increases. && .AVIATION...For McCarran...Light winds favoring diurnal trends are expected the rest of today through Friday under clear skies. No weather related operational impacts expected. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...Light winds favoring typical diurnal trends are expected across the regional TAF sites the rest of today through Friday. Some smoke and haze may move back into parts of the eastern Sierra Slopes and Owens Valley of Inyo County, otherwise clear skies with no weather related operational impacts expected. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures. && $$ DISCUSSION...Varian AVIATION...Pierce For more forecast information...see us on our webpage: https://weather.gov/lasvegas or follow us on Facebook and Twitter
