357 FXUS62 KKEY 060834 AFDKEY Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 434 AM EDT Sun Sep 6 2020 .DISCUSSION... .CURRENTLY... Across our entire area, considerable high cloudiness and light northeast to east winds of generally less than 10 mph, temperatures are hovering around 80 degrees along the along the Florida Keys. Meanwhile, local radars are not detecting any significant precipitation echoes in our entire region. On our marine district, winds are northeast to east near 10 knots, except slightly higher on the Straits of Florida. && .SHORT TERM...(Today through Tuesday night) A massive, northeast-southwest oriented TUTT Low centered from the Northwest Bahamas into the Northwest Caribbean Sea will move slowly into our region over the next day or so, before slowly eroding and lifting northward toward the middle of next week. But until then, lower heights, cooler air aloft and periodic mid level vorticity lobes will rotate through our region. Given occasional ascent aloft, pockets of high moisture and a confluent low level east flow, occasional periods of rainfall, some of which may be locally heavy is expected across the island chain for at least the next couple of days. High temperatures will average between the upper 80s to lower 90s, with overnight lows between 75 and 80 degrees. && .LONG TERM...(Wednesday through Saturday) Our region will lie between a deep continental mid latitude long wave trough traversing east northeastward across the Continental United States before lifting into the Great Lakes, while high pressure remains in the western Atlantic Ocean. Because of this, plenty of moisture, light winds along with little if any convective inhibition will support above climo 40 percent rain chances through this forecast cycle. && .MARINE... Away from showers, thunderstorms, outflow boundaries and possible waterspouts today, gentle to moderate mainly east winds will transition into the light to gentle range later Monday and persist through most of the week. && .AVIATION... VFR conditions are likely to prevail through 06/15z at the island terminals. Have prevailed VCTS thereafter as scattered to numerous coverage is anticipated from midday through the evening, though exact timing is too uncertain to pin down for this cycle. Surface winds outside of convection will generally be 5 to 10 knots, from the east-northeast this morning shifting east to east-southeast. && .CLIMATE... In 1931, the daily record low temperature of 70 degrees was recorded in Key West. Temperature records date back to 1872. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
