304 FNUS75 KSLC 201606 FWSSLC Spot Forecast for Gardner Fire National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT 1006 AM MDT Thu Aug 20 2020 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM MDT THIS EVENING... .DISCUSSION... The main concern at the fire site today will be the threat of widely scattered thunderstorms. While the bulk of the thunderstorm activity today is expected to remain east of the I-15 corridor (and east of the fire site), cannot rule out the low-probability but high-impact possibility of a thunderstorm producing dry lightning and strong gusty outflow winds at the site. The more likely scenario is continued hot and dry conditions, while seeing afternoon buildups east of the fire site. Otherwise, winds will remain mostly terrain driven, with some mixing of gustier winds up to 20 mph this afternoon, especially over the ridge tops. Widely scattered thunderstorms are again possible on Friday, but with the focus once again expected to be east of the fire site. .REST OF TODAY...
