136 FXUS64 KSJT 051946 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 246 PM CDT Wed Aug 5 2020 .SHORT TERM... (Tonight and Thursday) ...Dry and Hot... Unfortunately, dry conditions and hot temperatures continue to drive a depressing short-term forecast. Models this cycle still show a dominate ridge aloft, to the east - building and slowly moving toward Texas. So, forecast lows and highs close to persistence look best, for these two periods. .LONG TERM... (Thursday Night through Sunday Night) ...The Bad... The bad news is models still hold the upper ridge, over Texas, through this next weekend. Thus, the forecast remains dry, with afternoon highs well above those more usual, for early August. (Monday through Wednesday) ...The Good... The good news is models indicate the ridge aloft may begin to weaken, through the middle of next week. By Wednesday, the flow aloft may become, more or less, zonal - that's west to east. If so, that could cause afternoon highs to be slightly cooler, and perhaps closer to those more usual, for early August. Although the forecast for these periods remains dry, a weakening ridge aloft could create conditions more favorable for rain late next week. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
