PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 317 AM CDT Sat Jul 18 2020/ SHORT TERM... (Today and Tonight) Water vapor imagery shows a flattened upper level ridge stretching across much of the southern CONUS this morning. This will keep dry conditions in place across our area. Afternoon highs, however, will continue a downward trend compared to what we saw for most of the week. Expect temperatures generally in the mid to upper 90s, with a few locations hitting 100 degrees. For San Angelo the forecast high right at 100 would make this the 11th day in a row of 100 degree temperatures. Overnight lows will fall into the mid to upper 70s. LONG TERM... (Sunday through Friday) Hot and generally dry conditions will continue through the extended forecast. Sunday through the middle of next week, upper level ridging will become centered across the Southeast United States and across the Desert Southwest. A weak inverted trough will be located across southeast Texas on Monday, then approach our West Central Texas on Tuesday. Not much in the way of shower and thunderstorm activity is expected with this feature, but the lowered heights should help to keep temperatures a few degrees lower than what we have been experiencing. Highs through this period will be in the mid to upper 90s, with overnight lows in the low to mid 70s. Models are indicating another inverted trough approaching the Texas coast Friday. This feature may bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms to our forecast area next weekend, but uncertainty continues this far out in the forecast. Temperatures for the second half of the work week will be near to slightly above seasonal normals, with highs in the mid to upper 90s. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
