354 FXUS65 KSLC 170332 AFDSLC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT 932 PM MDT Thu Jul 16 2020 .SYNOPSIS...A weak weather disturbance lifting north through central Utah will generate scattered showers along with a few thunderstorms this evening. High pressure aloft expanding west into the Great Basin will bring hot temperatures through the upcoming weekend. && .DISCUSSION...An area of showers and isolated thunderstorms has maintained its integrity across eastern Kane and Garfield counties this evening so have updated forecast to add some weather there through midnight. Lightning and gusty winds have been then main impact of these storms. The other area of high-base showers and thunderstorms that were persisting into this evening has been from Millard county northeast into Utah county. These storms have had a drier low level boundary so rain is mostly evaporating, which means gusty winds are the main threat as these storms go to rest this evening. Gusts to 25-30 mph are possible through 11pm. No other updates for this evening. && .AVIATION...The SLC terminal will have elevated southerly winds through about 0430-0500 this evening. Winds will relax back to normal drainage after about 0500. Skies are expected to clear after midnight.
