256 FXUS64 KSJT 231948 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 248 PM CDT Tue Jun 23 2020 .SHORT TERM... (Tonight and Tomorrow) This afternoon, conditions across West Central Texas are much more tame than they were 24 hours ago. At the upper levels, a shortwave trough/MCV was located over the DFW Metroplex and drifting eastward. Remnant cloud cover from last night's MCS was still wrapped around this feature, with some mid to higher clouds over the Big Country this afternoon. As advertised, a surface cold front pushed through West Central Texas this morning, leaving a more stable airmass in place. Temperatures were in the low to mid 80s this afternoon, with generally variable winds driven mainly by mesoscale features. Despite the mostly stable airmass, a few light showers are possible this evening. Tonight, skies will gradually clear out as an area of high pressure moves into north Texas, although some high clouds may stick around. Low temperatures should fall into the mid 60s, given drier air and light winds expected. Tomorrow, some sunrise stratus is expected for the Hill Country, but this should burn off by mid to late morning. High pressure will drift east, while a weak low moves over the southeast Texas coast. This should result in continuing northeast flow at the surface. There will be some increase in instability tomorrow, and with continued northwest flow aloft, a few localized showers or thunderstorms are possible. Otherwise, high temperatures should reach the upper 80s to around 90. SK .LONG TERM... (Wednesday Night through next Tuesday) Wednesday night into Thursday, upper level ridging will build back into the area, suppressing thunderstorm chances and allowing for temperatures to warm back up into the upper 80s to mid 90s. There will be a persistent small chance for showers and thunderstorms through this period generally southeast of a Brownwood to Junction line, but severe weather is not expected. Friday into the weekend, the upper level ridge will weaken some as an upper level trough moves through the Four Corners region Friday through Saturday. At this time, confidence is low in widespread thunderstorm coverage, so have kept chances at Slight Chance or less Friday into the weekend. Upper level ridging will move back in for the start of next week, reducing rain chances again. Temperatures will warm through the weekend into next week, pushing highs back into the mid and upper 90s by the middle of next week. 20 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
