520 FXUS64 KLCH 130914 AFDLCH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 414 AM CDT Sat Jun 13 2020 .DISCUSSION... The combination of scattered high clouds and intermittent mixing wind is producing less than ideal radiational cooling this morning resulting in a nearly 10 degree variation in temperatures across the region from the lower 60s to lower 70s. However, all sites are still reading below the normal low of 72 for this date. Little change in the apparent of the last couple of days with deep ridging extending across much of the central U.S. Forecast soundings depict a bit more moisture above 20kft which will likely allow for more scattered cirrus today albeit with plenty of sunshine intermixed. As was mentioned in the previous forecast, a somewhat shallow plume of mid level moisture wrapping around the southern periphery of the ridge is expected to result in more low level clouds and even a few isolated showers or thunderstorms Sunday afternoon across south central Louisiana. This moisture will be subsequently shunted off to the south by Monday as the ridge builds into the northern gulf of Mexico. The upcoming work week is expected to be generally more of the same with the ridge remaining generally in place across the central U.S. while a deepening upper trof digs south out of the great lakes and meanders over the east coast from Georgia through the Carolinas. The GFS is insistent in wrapping a plume of moisture around the west side of this trof streaming it from north to south through Arkansas and Louisiana. While this would materially increase cloud cover and rain chances for several days, it appears to be an outlier in relation to the other, much drier guidance and so was discounted for this forecast package which keeps PoPs negligible Monday through Friday. Jones && .MARINE... High pressure is expected to maintain an extended dry weather pattern well into the new week. Light to moderate offshore winds will persist today trending more easterly beginning Sunday. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
