520 FXUS62 KKEY 211528 AFDKEY Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 1128 AM EDT Tue Apr 21 2020 .DISCUSSION... A weakening front is spreading south through our Gulf waters late this morning. It will cross the Keys late this afternoon or early this evening. Shower activity along the front is expected to diminish this afternoon, though a mainland-borne afternoon shower or thunderstorm could move from the Everglades eastward across North Key Largo late this afternoon. A pleasantly less muggy air mass will trickle in on north winds behind the front tonight, with dewpoints bottoming out in the mid 60s on Wed morning. By Wednesday afternoon, a quick turn to easterly winds will start to slosh the moister air mass back across the Keys, so the more comfortable air mass will be short- lived. && .MARINE... Westerly flow will continue until late this afternoon in advance of a weak front that will cross the Keys by early evening. In westerly flow, winds often enhance during the late afternoon and early evening over the waters near the south tip of the Florida peninsula, specifically for Florida Bay and oceanside waters adjacent to the Upper Keys. Have therefore added SCEC headlines to these waters for increasing winds this afternoon. Behind the front, a turn to northerly winds is expected for tonight, quickly snapping around out of the east by Wednesday afternoon. From synopsis...A weakening frontal boundary will press southeastward and cross our entire area late today and this evening. Beyond that, gentle northerly breezes will filter into the Keys tonight before turning southeast and freshening Wednesday night and early Thursday, before mainly gentle southerly breezes prevail for the balance of this week and into early next weekend. && .AVIATION... A weak cold front will pass south across the island terminals around 22z-24z. Until the frontal passage, some cumulus congestus will continue. In the west-southwest flow preceding the front, a reverse cloud line has formed over the Lower/Middle Keys which is producing a few showers near MTH. Following the frontal passage, a turn to northwest wind is expected, turning north then northeast overnight. Drier low-level air will arrive, leading to lifting of cloud bases then clearing later this evening. && .CLIMATE... In 1987, the daily record low temperature of 63 degrees was recorded in Key West. Temperature records date back to 1872. && .KEY WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... FL...None.
