The return of onshore flow will spread cooling inland today along with a return of coastal low clouds and fog. A compact low pressure system on Friday followed by a weak low pressure system on Saturday will bring cooling, gusty west winds in the mountains and deserts, and a chance of showers. Sunday will be dry and a little warmer. Another pair of low pressure systems for Monday and Tuesday will bring cooling, gusty winds in the mountains and deserts, and a chance of showers. Then dry and warmer for the middle of next week. && .DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE... SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES... .SHORT TERM (Today through Saturday)... Early this morning, satellite imagery shows patchy low clouds and fog over northern Orange County, near Point Loma, and along portions of the northern Baja coast. The low clouds and fog may fill in some near the coast into this morning, but not extend inland much past the mesas in San Diego County. The fog could be locally dense near higher coastal terrain inland to the mesas. The return of onshore flow today will spread cooling inland into the coast and valleys. A compact low pressure system will move inland through southern California on Friday followed by a weaker low pressure system from the northwest on Saturday. This will bring cooling for Friday and Saturday with periods of gusty west winds in the mountains and deserts. There will be an initial chance for showers on Friday with continuing chances for showers into Saturday. Rainfall will generally be less than one-quarter inch. The snow level will be mostly between 6500 and 7000 feet. && .LONG TERM (Sunday through Wednesday)... Sunday will be dry and a little warmer under weak high pressure. A pair of low pressure systems will move inland through southern California on Monday and Tuesday with some model timing and intensity differences. In general, they are expected to bring cooling, periods of gusty west winds in the mountains and deserts, and chances for showers for Monday into Tuesday.
