363 FXUS61 KBGM 250626 AFDBGM Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Binghamton NY 226 AM EDT Wed Mar 25 2020 .SYNOPSIS... A storm will track through North Carolina into the western Atlantic today and should push some light precipitation into northeast Pennsylvania and parts of southern and eastern New York. High pressure will build in behind the system and bring dry weather for Thursday. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/... A deepening storm will push off the NC coast today with an inverted trough pushing northward into NEPA. In the meantime, ridging developing north of the strengthening low noses southwest out of New England battling the precipitation trying to spread northward from the low. This all results in a low confidence, light precip event for the forecast area, mostly NEPA into southern NY. Ridging is also re-enforcing the cold air allowing for some mixing and maybe some light accumulations over the higher elevations of NEPA before daytime heating of the boundary layer results in all rain during the later morning and afternoon. System exits this evening allowing drier air to take hold under high pressure. This will result in dry conditions overnight and into Thursday. && .SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/... A diffuse area of low pressure moving through the Great Lakes will keep our weather unsettled. Scattered showers will spread across the region, while cooler air entrenched over the northern and eastern forecast areas will cause the rain to mix with or change over to wet snow early Friday. Temperatures will fall into the middle 30s overnight. Warm air advection will strengthen into Friday, changing the snow showers over to rain. Temperatures will peak in the 50s. && .LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/... A slow moving cyclone moving out of the Ohio Valley and into Northern NY will keep our weather active through the long term period. A mix of rain and snow showers will overrun NY and PA early Saturday before the storm pulls milder air across the region, changing the precipitation over to all rain. Temperatures will rise into the lower 50s. We'll stay mild Saturday night in southerly flow. Rain showers will continue with temperatures near 40 degrees. Warm advection will push temperatures into the middle 50s on Sunday as showers continue. By Monday, the cold front will cross the forecast area and set off a few more showers. Tuesday looks quiet and a little cooler with temperatures in the upper 40s. && .AVIATION /06Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/... Mainly MVFR and VFR ceilings this morning will gradually rise on Wednesday as a storm system passes to the south. There's a chance of showers at AVp but they should be light and not lower the visibility. Clouds will remain through the period and light winds again this evening will allow ceilings to lower to MVFR levels once again. Outlook... Wednesday night... Lingering MVFR ceiling restrictions. Thursday through Friday...Mostly VFR expected. Low chance for brief scattered rain showers. Moderate confidence. Saturday through Sunday...Restrictions in rain. Low to Moderate confidence. && .BGM WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... PA...None. NY...None. && $$ SYNOPSIS...DGM NEAR TERM...DGM SHORT TERM...DJP LONG TERM...DJP AVIATION...DGM/MWG
