560 FXUS64 KMAF 042030 AFDMAF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 230 PM CST Wed Mar 4 2020 .DISCUSSION... The upper low responsible for abundant rainfall this morning across the Permian Basin is beginning to shear out into an open wave over northwestern Texas at the moment. In its wake, increasing short wave ridging and drier air aloft should scatter out cloudiness tonight. Northerly winds at the surface will become light and out of the west after midnight, so there is a possibility that areas which received the most rainfall and where winds are the slowest to become westerly (generally the northeastern Permian Basin) will see areas of fog develop after midnight. Whatever fog that does develop will scatter/mix out within a few hours after sunrise. Temperatures will be much warmer Thursday under ridging aloft and downsloping winds at the surface, and above normal readings are forecast to continue Friday. Clouds will start to increase Saturday, however, as a short wave trough approaches from the west, bringing with it both increasing amounts of Pacific and Gulf moisture. Right now it looks like the best rain chances will be Sunday and Sunday night over areas generally along and north of I-10, and it's not out of the question that there'll be enough elevated instability for a few embedded thunderstorms to develop Sunday afternoon and evening. Thereafter, expect a drying trend with temperatures warming into the 70s to lower 80s early next week. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
