973 FXUS63 KLBF 072332 AFDLBF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 532 PM CST Fri Feb 7 2020 .SHORT TERM...(This evening through Saturday night) Issued at 312 PM CST Fri Feb 7 2020 As an upper level ridge builds across the Rockies tonight, temperatures aloft will rise across the area. This will also push a stationary front northeast as a warm front overnight. Low temperatures tonight however will be fairly cold in the mid to upper teens with light and variable winds and partial clearing. A strong warmup on Saturday across western Nebraska. Highs from the lower 50s southwest, and upper 40s western Sandhills to near 40 northeast. Will see a breezy southerly wind by afternoon. A disturbance will move from Montana and Wyoming east across primarily South Dakota. Northern Nebraska will primarily be affected as a cold front sweeps southeast overnight. Northwest winds to increase to 15 to 30 mph after midnight. A slight chance for rain or snow in the evening as far south as I80, with light snow remaining possible after midnight across northern Nebraska. Only a dusting of snow possible across far northern Nebraska. .LONG TERM...(Sunday through Friday) Issued at 312 PM CST Fri Feb 7 2020 A lingering slight chance for light snow Sunday morning far northern Nebraska. Much colder air on Sunday with 850mb temperatures as low as -10C in parts of north central Nebraska. Highs from upper 20s to near 30 north with lower to mid 30s south. Northerly winds of 20 to 35 mph with a few gusts to 40 mph expected. Dry conditions will prevail Sunday night through Tuesday night. During this time, there will be a northern stream trough and cold front moving through Monday night. This will have little effect on temperatures as highs both Monday and Tuesday will reach the low to mid 40s. Models continue to indicate somewhat unsettled weather Wednesday through Friday. A weak disturbance in northwest flow will bring mainly a slight chance for light snow Wednesday night into Thursday, then mainly dry Thursday night Friday. By Friday, an upper trough will amplify across the Great Basin with southwest flow occurring downstream across the Central Plains.
