678 FXUS62 KFFC 281133 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 633 AM EST Tue Jan 28 2020 ...12z Aviation Forecast Discussion... .PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 348 AM EST Tue Jan 28 2020/ SHORT TERM /Today through Wednesday/... Patchy fog has developed in some locations this morning given clear skies and lingering low level moisture. A few fog-prone locations have flirted with dense visibilities (1/4 mile or lower) during the early morning hours, though coverage of dense fog has not become widespread at this point. Will continue to monitor trends through the morning for any indications of more widespread denser fog development. Otherwise, today will bring dry conditions and warmer temperatures amid slight height rises. High clouds will initially be on the increase this afternoon and evening as southwest flow aloft increases ahead of the next incoming trough. The onset of precipitation appears largely delayed until around midday Wednesday as it will take a while for the column to become saturated, though some very light isolated activity is possible as early as Wednesday morning. At this point, given the expected later onset of any significant precipitation, not really concerned about wintry precipitation in the north Georgia mountains Wednesday morning. At most, if light precip reaches the surface Wednesday morning a few snowflakes could briefly mix in in far north Georgia with no impacts. The lion's share of the rainfall coverage will increase Wednesday afternoon as the upper trough pushes into the area. Given that the associated weak surface low will drop southward along the northern Gulf coast, the higher QPF will tend to be to the south and edging into central Georgia. Even so, total QPF will be light, ranging from around a tenth of an inch in north Georgia to around a quarter inch in the southern CWA fringes. RW LONG TERM /Wednesday Night through Monday/... The long term period picks up early Thursday with the previously mentioned upper level trough moving out east out of the Plains towards the forecast area. At the surface, the resultant low is expected to move along the northern Gulf Coast before moving into the Atlantic on Thursday. For the local forecast area as this system passes through the area, chances for rain will continue into early Thursday before precipitation clears later on Thursday. Higher pressure briefly builds into the area on Thursday before another upper level trough approaches the area on Friday. At the surface as high pressure moves off the coast, high pressure is expected to build down the Appalachians through the day on Friday. As weak ridging in the upper levels shifts to southwesterly flow, moisture is expected to overspread the area increasing chances for rain on Friday through early Saturday. Early Friday there is the potential for a few spots in the higher elevations of northeastern Georgia to see some wintry precipitation. Temperatures will continue to be monitored, but no accumulations or impacts are expected at this time. Behind this system early on Saturday, there is some moisture on the backside of this system although mostly confined to the north so some areas across far northeastern Georgia may see a brief period of additional precipitation. High temperatures through the extended will generally be around normal, in the 50s and 60s with slightly above average low temperatures in the 30s and 40s. Reaves && .AVIATION... 12Z Update...
