A cool and dry New Year's Eve is in place for tonight as surface high pressure continues to build into the region from the west. Lows tonight will dip down to slightly below normal ranging from the upper 30s to mid 40s. Breezy winds this afternoon begin to subside tonight. With decreasing winds, there is a slight chance for patchy frost formation in the far inland portions of southeast Georgia. .SHORT TERM [New Years Day Through Thursday Night]... Temperatures rebound and begin a warming trend til the end of the work week. Surface high pressure will be overhead on Wednesday and shift eastward out of the region on Thursday. Surface winds shift from northerly to southerly with southerly flow causing higher temperatures and dewpoints over the area. Temperatures increase to well above normal by Thursday. Highs on Wednesday will be in the 60s with highs on Thursday ranging from the upper 60s to the upper 70s. .LONG TERM [Friday Through Monday]... Rainfall returns on Friday as a cold front passes through the region Friday into Saturday. Ahead of the cold front, continued south- southwesterly flow will cause temperatures to rise to near record with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. Showers and storms move in ahead of the frontal boundary with a slight chance for thunderstorms. With marginal instability and decent low level wind shear (40-50 kt), an isolated strong thunderstorm could be possible. High pressure builds in behind the front bringing a return of below normal temperatures for the weekend. Wind chills in the low 30s will be possible early Sunday morning. && .AVIATION...
